Being sick is no fun. I would know – I just had the flu. But this special “immuni-tea” helped me fight it in only 3 days. Use this simple tea recipe to boost your immunity during times of sickness.
Flu season is in full swing right now. Every single person at my office is sick, my neighbors are sick, and the lady at the supermarket greeted me with a full medical face mask. I don’t blame her. The flu this year seems to be hitting everyone hard and fast.
I try to be as healthy as possible so that my immune system is strong to take on any influenza attack. I eat healthy, I exercise, I spend some time in the sun every day. For the last few years, this has been enough to keep me influenza-free. I even started to think I’m invincible to the flu (yeah, right)
This year, however, I couldn’t escape it. This year’s flu seems to be more aggressive than ever before. News channels are reporting a spike in flu hospitalizations all over the country. Even those who got a flu shot aren’t protected.
(Let’s be honest, the flu shot is extremely ineffective!)
Anyways, last Friday I got so sick, I had to leave work. My fever was 102 and all I could do was lay in bed and wait for it to go away. I knew I couldn’t afford to be sick for a long time because I have so much going on in my life right now.
So I made my immuni-tea in the hopes that it will help. And lo and behold, it did! Within 3 days my symptoms were all gone and I was recovering like a champ!
I make this tea anytime I get a cold, too. Sometimes I make it when I’m not sick – just as a tool of prevention. It stimulates my immune system and helps me fight all sorts of bugs quickly and painlessly.

What goes into the Immuni-tea
The most key ingredient in my tea is echinacea. This flower has been used by Native Americans for centuries to treat various infections and diseases, including the flu, syphilis, malaria, blood poisoning, and diphtheria.
There have been many studies done on the echinacea plant. Scientists discovered that it has antiviral, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting functions.
Before antibiotics were invented, echinacea was often used in their place.
A review of 14 clinical trials found that echinacea reduced the odds of developing a cold by 58% and the duration of a cold by 1 to 4 days.
It’s basically an amazing plant, and if you haven’t heard of it, I strongly urge you to give it a try!
In addition to using echinacea, I like to add other ingredients to my Immuni-tea that are intended to help me feel better when I am sick. These ingredients include raw honey for its antibacterial properties, ginger to help with stomach issues, cayenne pepper for immunity support, and lemon – for a dose of vitamin C.
You might be wondering what this concoction tastes like. Well, don’t worry, it’s actually pretty good. It tastes like a sweet chamomile tea with a hint of lemon and spice.
If you ask me, that’s way tastier than those awful Theraflu mixes!
- 1 tbsp dried echinacea (or 1 teabag of echinacea tea)
- 1 tsp honey
- 1/2 tsp ginger root (sliced)
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 wedge of lemon
- Brew some hot water.
- If using loose echinacea, place it in a tea infuser along with the ginger root. Put it in a big mug and cover with hot water. If using pre-bagged echinacea tea, just add it to the mug, add the ginger root and cover with hot water.
- Let the tea and ginger steep for 4-6 minutes.
- Add honey, cayenne pepper, and lemon.
You can have this tea multiple times a day. When I was sick I drank about 4 cups a day!
Not only will it help your body fight the virus faster, but it will also relieve some of your symptoms like that nasty sore throat and runny nose. It will even help lower your fever a bit.
I hope this helps you feel better if you’re already sick, otherwise – stay safe out there! Drink at least a cup a day as a way of prevention and you should be just fine.
